“I’ve Never Followed the Straight and Narrow”

Kelly Zhu

Miletus is originally from Austin but left school and his home at age 17 to travel around the U.S. He eventually ended up in Arkansas for 7 years where he worked on a farm and attended the University of Arkansas for religious studies. “As a young man I realized that I had to know how to take care of myself no matter what, which includes knowing how to work the land and be self-sufficient”. At one point Miletus found himself living in a small shack with no electricity out in the middle of nowhere preparing for Y2K, when he noticed that no matter where he was, “humanity had drama” and he returned to Austin shortly after. Miletus was greatly influenced by Hermann Hesse’s novel, Siddhartha, and is a follower in Tibetan Buddhism and a believer in animism.
